A statistical experiment is a process of collecting and analyzing data to make sound statistical decisions. Basically, a statistical experiment follows four steps:

  1. Develop a statistical question in the form of a hypothesis (supposition) about a population parameter.
  2. Choose a probability model for collecting data relevant to that parameter.
  3. Collect data.
  4. Compare the results seen in the data with what is expected under the hypothesis.
